Avia Rose integrates the Classical painting style into a contemporary setting which deals with issues of r*pe, loss of innocence, a tight religious upbringing, as well as the fear of abandonment. She achieves this by studying the colors and emotions of the Baroque and Romanticism art movements, reflecting these studies through self-portraiture often paired with symbolic farm animals. Coagulated Matter was born in an effort to normalize the conversaation about traumatic personal experiences, how we cope with our anxities and depression, and what we do when we are sad and alone. All of this, with the direction intention of making viewers uncomfortable by it’s rawness and nudity. Through this exhibition the artist wanted folks to feel less alone, when they commmune before her work.
